John Brock Parker is best known for his Limit Holdem prowess (Parker is the owner of two WSOP bracelets, one of which is in Limit Holdem, along with six of his seven other Top 10 finishes at the WSOP coming in Limit Holdem events) but he is also a very accomplished No Limit Holdem player, something hed proved this past weekend by winning the Borgata Fall Poker Open in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Parker outlasted a huge field of 644 players, with some of the biggest names in East Coast poker in attendance, including Matt Matros, Allen Kessler, Jeff Papola, Vinny Pahuja, Scott Baumstein, and WSOP October Niner Michael Esposito. The road to victory wasn’t an easy one, as all of the above players made the final table along with poker pro Matt Stout who was the only West Coast player at the final table.
This is the first major poker tournament in Atlantic City since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the area, and it was good for the poker community and more importantly Atlantic City, to see such a strong turnout for the tournament.
Parker’s lifetime live tournament winnings are now in excess of $2.5 million after the $372,568 payday (the second largest of his career. The win is also the poker pros third major title, adding the Borgata trophy to his pair of WSOP bracelets which he won back in 2009 in the span of just a few days.
After a four-hour long battle between Parker, Scott Baumstein, and Patrick Chan, Parker finally finished off Baumstein holding KK on a 9-high flop, with Baumstein practically drawing dead holding a K/9. Parker began the final day with just 14 Big Blinds and in 26th place out of the 27 players, “I was lucky considering where I started. I didn’t expect to stay very long, but I was lucky enough to get two double-ups and then took it from there,” the Maryland native told the Borgata Blog after his victory. Parker went on to give kudos to his opponents, saying, “It was a really good final table. A lot of talented players.” Get a chance to be like the pros on our Titan Poker online rooms.
