On September 25, 2013 at 3PM PST the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) will host a roundtable discussion called Power Poker: The Players’ View, a first of its kind poker-centric discussion. In a bit of irony, the 2013 G2E will be held at the Las Vegas Sands Convention Center; the Las Vegas Sands is one of the flagship properties of casino magnate and anti-online poker activist Sheldon Adelson.
The panel will be moderated by QuadJacks Marco Valerio and will consist of the following poker personalities:
- Poker’s all-time money-leader and Ultimate Poker Ambassador Antonio Esfandiari
- Tournament pro and Parx Casino Poker Room Ambassador Matt Glantz
- 2013 November Niner and Las Vegas nightlife professional Jay Farber
- Poker and chess player Jennifer Shahade
Each of the panelists was quoted in the press release announcing the panel on the G2E website:
“As a poker player, I’m excited to see the growing interest and increased attention that this game is receiving,” said Esfandiari. “I’m thrilled to be participating on the upcoming players panel at G2E and look forward to sharing my knowledge and opinions on this topic.”
“I envision a partnership between every regional poker room and their resident professional poker players, so as to create a familiar, entertaining and easily accessible poker playing atmosphere,” said Glantz, poker room ambassador at the Parx Casino in Pennsylvania.
“I’m honored to be a part of such a distinguished poker players panel,” said Farber. “I look forward to discussing ways in which we can expand and improve the online and offline experience. I also hope to provide a unique insight into gaming’s effect on Vegas nightlife.”
“When I began playing poker, I approached it much like a chess player, focusing on the strategic elements of the game, and only slowly learning to enjoy the gambling aspects of it,” said Shahade, internationally acclaimed chess champion, author and poker player. “As more states begin to regulate online poker, this distinction becomes more important. I’m also looking forward to discussing how our poker culture can attract and welcome new female players to the game, both live and online.”
This will be the second panel discussion moderated by Valerio. In February of 2013 Valerio moderated a similar panel discussion at the iGaming North America Conference (iGNA) where the panel of Matt Kaufman, Collin Moshman and Daniel Negreanu, discussed a number of aspects ranging from recreational vs. professional models and the use of software like HUD’s. The iGNA panel was well-received and offered up a number of slightly different points of view on the poker topics discussed.
You can read Valerio’s summary of the panel discussion or listen to the entire talk at the following link: http://agentmarco.com/players-speak-igna-2013-audio-summary/
The discussion at the iGNA conference was focused almost entirely on online poker (for obvious reasons), which will not be the case at the upcoming G2E panel discussion, where we will likely see online poker and live poker topics receive equal time and attention.
According to the press release issued on the G2E website:
“During the session, the panelists will discuss the rise of Internet poker, the proper management of a live poker room, the game’s impact on mainstream culture, and how to understand poker from the player’s point of view.”
