The new Full Tilt Poker (owned and operated by PokerStars) has made their first public relations move this week by hiring former Team Full Tilt Poker pro and owner of the site Gus Hansen as their first official ambassador. Hansen will be the first face of the relaunched site, but Sarne Lightman, the new Head of Marketing at the resurrected Full Tilt poker site, has implied that more signings will be announced in the coming weeks.
Hansen has always been relatively synonymous with Full Tilt Poker and their ultra-high-stakes poker games, and prior to the sites post-Black Friday collapse Gus Hansen was one of the faces of the site both on and off the poker tables. Hansen has millions of dollars tied-up on FTP as he was in the midst of one of the best online poker runs in recent memory over the past year and a half.
In a press release, Sarne Lightman stated, “Gus is one of the best-known and most respected names in the poker community. Gus has always embodied the best characteristics of the Full Tilt Poker brand and we are thrilled to have him return as an ambassador.” Lightman went on to add, “Expect plenty more news in the comings weeks. More international pros, exciting launch promotions and the return of Full Tilt Poker as the world’s most innovative poker site.”
When asked by PokerNews about being the first signing by the new Full Tilt Poker, Hansen joked that he must have a good agent, adding, “There is only room for one at the top, but of course there is always room for others to follow,” when asked about what other players may be on Full Tilt’s radar.
Hansen has been able to stay above the fray when it comes to the previous owners of Full Tilt Poker and the mismanagement that led to the site being closed-down in June of 2011. Perhaps Hansen has avoided the ire of the poker community because of the amount of money he has personally tied-up on the site –Hansen is rumored to have the second most money tied-up on Full Tilt Poker, with only Daniel Cates AKA Jungleman having more money on the site.
Hansen was not considered a major player in the ownership or management of FTP either, especially since he was not among the original investors, joining Team Full Tilt Poker in 2006 after selling his own online poker site, PokerChamps.com, for some $15 million.
