Merge Gaming Runs Into Problems with Poker Maximus III

In a short amount of time the Poker Maximus tournament series has already seen its fair share of controversies. The history of this tournament series on the Merge Gaming Network has been fraught with issues, and is considered by many to have been the “last straw” that caused Lock Poker to leave the Merge Gaming Network and purchase the Cake Poker Network, rebranding it Revolution Gaming.

Now the latest installment of the series, Poker Maximus III, has seen its own hiccup, as several prominent rooms on the Merge Gaming Network have decided to “opt-out” of participating in the series. No specific reasons were given, for Black Chip Poker’s, Hero Poker’s, or RPM Poker’s decision to withdraw from the series at the last minute, which has led to rampant speculation across poker forums.

Unfortunately for the players at these skins that had planned on playing in Poker Maximus series the announcement came on the same day the tournament series began, and was only revealed via the 2+2 poker forums by a RPM Poker representative named RPMSeth: “We truly apologize for the inconvenience this may cause some players, and we hope to have more information available in the near future.”

Merge Gaming players may be having a sense of déjà vu, considering it was a last minute cancellation of the entire series that caused a dust-up between Merge Gaming and Lock Poker earlier this year. Now three rooms are apparently having some type of issue with Merge Gaming, and US poker players should keep a very close eye on this situation as RPM, Black Chip, and Hero Poker are three of the largest US poker rooms in the industry.

Merge, emerged from Black Friday as the largest US-facing online poker network, but has had a fair share of issues, both big and small since (as have many US online poker rooms) and has seen their traffic numbers hurt not only had their very public split with Lock Poker, but also over smaller issues such as slow withdrawals, the Merge CEO stepping down earlier this year, a botched software upgrade, and most recently the elimination of player-to-player transfers –which was one of the few ways US players were able to fund their accounts and receive withdrawals in a somewhat expedient fashion.

The Poker Maximus III series is running. The series will see participating Merge Gaming rooms host 35 tournaments in the span of 11 days (from Thursday, November 29 through Sunday, December 9) with over $1 million in guaranteed prize-money up for grabs. In addition to the prize-money there will also be a series long leader-board, with the Top 10 performers all receiving prize packages at the conclusion of the tournament series.
